To create a straight stair

  1. Select the Stair Maker tool.

    The Stair Maker dialog opens.

  2. From the Configuration menu, choose the first icon representing a straight stair.

    The Stair Maker dialog displays the specific fields for creating a straight stair.

  3. (Optional) Select a family from the Family combo box. The first part belonging to the selected family displays in the Part field, along with a description to the right of the Family field.
  4. (Optional) Select a part from the Part option menu.
  5. Set the Extrusion menu to Building Designer forms or shapes.
  6. From the Type option menu, choose Closed or Open.
  7. Set the Level to either Default or Active.
  8. Set the Symbology for the form.
  9. Enter the width of each tread into the Tread Width field.
  10. Enter the height of each step’s riser into the Riser Height field.
  11. Enter into the Tread field the measurement of the tread from the front of the step to the riser, not including the nosing.
  12. Enter the length of the nosing into the Nosing field. The value to the right of Tread Depth automatically calculates.
  13. Enter the total height of the stairs, measuring the positive Y-axis of the total height the stairway spans.
  14. Enter the total length of the stairs, measuring the positive X-axis of the length the stairway spans
  15. Enter the thickness of the landing.
  16. Set the vertical angle of the stairs
  17. Enter the number of risers comprising the staircase
  18. Click Place.

    The Place Compound Cell dialog opens.
